Book Review: The Road to Recognition

I have to start this book review with full transparency and let you know the author of this book, Seth Price, is a dear friend and mentor of mine. Knowing this, I was a little apprehensive about reading it for the first time. What if I didn’t like it? What if it didn’t live up to my expectations of what I think of Seth. What would I say next time we have one of our brainstorming dinners? All of these worries quickly went out the window halfway through the first chapter.

The Road to Recognition is destined to be a branding “textbook” when it comes to the real estate industry (or any industry for that matter). The book itself is laid out in a manner that lends itself to becoming a quick reference guide as you need a refresher or a new idea to build your business. With the focus of each chapter presented in the first paragraph and the inclusion of actionable ideas and strategies for every topic, this may be the easiest book to follow and implement that I have read.

Seth and his co-author, Barry Feldman, give you an A-to-Z roadmap for effectively branding yourself and your company. Starting with the first chapter, A for Authenticity and ending with Z for Zeal, each chapter contains at least one takeaway that will help you improve your brand.

I am lucky enough to travel the country and speak with real estate professionals coast to coast. I see the trials and tribulations as well as the successes and home runs. I am asked hundreds of questions a month related to how agents can improve their business. Which CRM should I use? What leads would you buy? Facebook Business page or just a personal page? As real estate professionals, we are overloaded with numerous ideas, strategies, tactics, and technologies and we often don’t even know where to get started.

This book answers all the questions I am asked every month, and then some. Since I have read the book, I have returned to it over seven times to gather brainstorming fodder and ideas for classes. (Sorry Seth. Yes, I have quoted the book probably a dozen times!)

The following are a few more key chapters that make this book invaluable to real estate professionals.

  • B is for Blog- Discover why blogging is still so important and what you should blog about.
  • C is for Content- This ties directly into the previous chapter and discusses the types of content and content strategies you should utilize.
  • E is for Email- Delve into the basics of an email campaign and end with some advanced email strategies.
  • I is for Influencers- One of my favorites, this chapter discusses social media best practices to help you connect with the most influential people in your market and beyond. Barry and Seth show you how to leverage these influencers for your business.
  • T is for Target- This chapter is a great reminder of how to find your perfect client.
  • V is for Video- Learn what, when, and how to shoot great video content.

For those of you professional marketers, this will be a good refresher, and even a launching point for you to gather new ideas and remind yourself of the tried-and-true branding methods. And for most of us who cannot identify as marketing pros, The Road to Recognition is the perfect roadmap to marketing and branding success.
