Laura shares her insight on the Northern Colorado market

In this video we catch up with Laura Olive, who is a top-producing agent with RE/MAX Alliance in Northern Colorado. Laura shares some of the insight she's obtained from working in the Northern Colorado real estate industry for more than 30 years.

Some of Laura's key points:

  • Laura got into the real estate business after she and her husband had finished undergraduate degrees at Colorado State University. Both were moving on to post-graduate work, so in 1980 Laura obtained her real estate license as a means to make some money—and avoid being broke!

  • Laura believes working in real estate was more difficult in the '80s than it is now, particularly because of higher interest rates. She think the client base in Fort Collins—such as university employees—has led to a more stable market.

  • Laura says technology, such as online listings and smartphones with email access, has greatly improved efficiency in the real estate business.

  • Persistence is key, especially when the market is shaky. Keep in touch with your past clients and give them valuable information.

  • Finding a balance between work and your home life is important. You may have to sacrifice some of your personal interests in order to stay successful in real estate and be attentive to your family and friends.

  • Laura's advice to new agents: Set realistic day-to-day goals. Talk about real estate to everyone you meet, and don't be afraid to ask for business. And finally, seek out advice from top producers in your area.
