Mind Matters: 3 steps to waking up aware
Get your day off to a great start

1. First thoughts

What do you think about when you open your eyes in the morning? What's the first thought that comes to mind? Is it a negative thought, such as, “I've got so much to do today. How am I going to get it all done?" Or is it more positive, like, “I'm really looking forward to meeting with my prospective client this afternoon?"

No matter how you wake up or when you wake up, your first thoughts impact the rest of your day.

2. Waking questions

Open your eyes and give yourself several minutes before rushing to the shower, grabbing that cup of coffee, or checking your email. Ask yourself an affirming question, such as:

  • What do I look forward to most today?
  • What do I want to make sure happens today for my business? My clients? Myself?
  • How I can make today extraordinary?

Create your own questions and over time you may find that you have a favorite.

3. Try it

Try it tomorrow morning! Give yourself five minutes to become aware of that first thought, and then ask yourself a waking question—just one. Give it a few days and you'll find that awareness of your waking moments can change your day!
